Drishyam 3 Movie Review: Ajay Devgn and Jaideep Ahlawat’s Mind Game Wins Again – Rating: 3/5

The Drishyam franchise has earned a special place among Bollywood audiences with its gripping crime drama, clever twists, and strong family emotions. Ajay Devgn and Tabu have been the major attractions of the series. The third installment, Drishyam 3: The Conclusion, arrives with a completely fresh storyline instead of following the Malayalam version.

The film picks up after the events of Drishyam 2, Meera Deshmukh (Tabu) continues to remain traumatized by her son’s death, while her husband Mahesh (Rajat Kapoor) decides to reopen the case and uncover the truth behind the murder. His efforts once again put Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) and his family in danger.

The investigation gets a new dimension with the entry of Rajveer Singh Tomar (Jaideep Ahlawat), a sharp Crime Branch SP. He takes charge of the case and uses his experience and strategies to corner Vijay. However, Vijay once again relies on his intelligence and carefully planned moves to protect his family.

The biggest strength of the film is the battle of wits between Ajay Devgn and Jaideep Ahlawat. The first half moves smoothly with suspense, investigation, and some well-placed humor. The confrontation between the two before the interval is one of the film’s major highlights.

The second half shifts more towards courtroom drama. The twists and Vijay’s calculated moves keep the proceedings engaging. However, since this is presented as the final chapter, audiences may already expect Vijay to find a way to save his family. Because of this, the ultimate outcome does not come as a major surprise.

Ajay Devgn once again delivers a restrained and convincing performance as Vijay Salgaonkar. He effectively portrays the character’s intelligence and emotional attachment to his family. Jaideep Ahlawat makes a strong impression as Rajveer Singh Tomar, bringing intensity and authority to the role. Tabu, Rajat Kapoor, Prakash Raj, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, and Kamlesh Sawant provide good support.

The technical aspects are handled well. Sudhir Chaudhary’s cinematography captures the investigative and courtroom portions effectively. Ravi Basrur’s background score adds tension, particularly during the second half, while Sandeep Francis’ editing keeps the narrative moving.

Director Abhishek Pathak deserves credit for taking an established franchise in a different direction with an original storyline. Although some portions could have been more impactful, the film manages to retain the suspense and connect well with the earlier installments.

In the end, Drishyam 3 is a decent continuation of the franchise, with its strongest moments coming from the mind games between Ajay Devgn and Jaideep Ahlawat. The climax may be predictable, but the journey towards it remains engaging.

Final Word: A decent crime thriller that works mainly because of its performances, suspense, and the battle of wits between its lead characters.
